Public Works Employee II

To perform a variety of tasks including building and equipment maintenance, equipment operation, lawn mowing, snow removal, assistance with parades and events, general support of water/sewer/streets projects. Performs other duties in support of the mission of the Department of Public Services as required.

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Public Services.

Brief Description

The Village of Paw Paw is seeking a full time, dedicated employee to join our team as Public Services Employee II.  The ideal applicant will enjoy working outdoors and completing a diversity of tasks related to water & sewer systems, park maintenance, snow removal, etc. Must be able to safely operate a variety of equipment.  Valid driver’s license and ability to secure a CDL B required. Must pass a pre-employment physical, background check and drug test; on-going, random drug testing required. Position pays $24/hour following successful probationary period.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities and Essential Duties and Functions (not exhaustive of all responsibilities)

  • Performs building and equipment maintenance including but not limited to painting, minor repairs, garbage removal, snow shoveling, checking oil, etc.
  • Operate equipment including lawnmowers, loaders, and performs snow plowing on village streets and parking lots.
  • Provides hands on support of village parades and events including Paw Paw Days, Wine and Harvest Festival, Christmas in the Village, Santa Run, and other events as needed.
  • Using technology including tablets and GIS programs to maintain adequate records of work performed.
  • Must be able to work as an individual and as a part of a team.
  • Position subject to emergency call in, but on call duty is not required.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Education requirements, certifications, work experience

Essential Qualifications

Education & endorsements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Some college or technical courses are preferred.
  • Maintain a valid CDL with B, N and air brakes endorsement.
  • Must be able to pass a drug test and employment physical.


  • Prior experience preferred, but not required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to kneel, stand for sustained periods of time, push, pull, lift.
  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach.
  • May be occasionally subject to noise and vibration.
