DPS Employee II

The Village of Paw Paw Department of Public Services is seeking a motivated individual to join our team. This employee would perform a variety of routine tasks related to the maintenance and repair of streets, parks, sewer lines, water lines, sewer lift stations and brush and leaf pickup.

Supervision Received:

• Work is performed under the direct supervision of the department of public services crew leader.

Responsibilities and Essential Duties and Functions (not exhaustive of all responsibilities):

Duties Include:

• Performing brush and leaf pickup.
• Water main repair.
• Water service line repairs and installations.
• Sewer main repair.
• Sewer maintenance.
• Hydrant flushing and repairs.
• Lift station maintenance/troubleshooting.
• Patching potholes.
• Monitor lake levels.
• Street sign repair and replacements.
• Parks maintenance and repairs.
• Public restroom maintenance and repairs.
• Trash removal.
• Snow plowing and ice removal from city streets, parking lots, and sidewalks.
• Operate trucks, tractors, air compressors, mowers, and various pieces of equipment.
• Mowing roadsides.
• Assist with parades and festivals.
• Work overtime as needed.
• Any other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to kneel, stand for sustained periods of time, push, pull, lift.
• Ability to work in the heat and in cold environments.
• May be occasionally subjected to noise and vibration.

Essential Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Must have a valid class A CDL or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire date.
• Good work history.
• Must pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen and background check.

Preference:

• Preference will be given to candidates that currently have a class A CDL.
• Preference is given to candidates that have an electrical troubleshooting background.

Salary Range:

• This is a full-time union position with a starting wage of $28.16 and a full benefits package.
